Box Score Worcester, Mass. - October 26, 2022 - The Springfield College women's soccer program falls on the road to Clark, 2-1, in a pivotal NEWMAC contest on Wednesday night.
Springfield now rests at 8-5-1 and 6-3 in conference play. The Pride posted 16 shots in the game, just one less than the Cougars, while Clark earned seven corner kicks in the match.
The Pride's lone goal came from Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.), which proved to be the 51st-goal of the Mansfield, Conn. native's illustrious career on Alden Street. Dale now joins Angela Schofield as the only two student-athletes to ever total 51 goals in a career on Alden Street.
A. Harper (Taylorsville, Utah) bottled up four saves in the setback.
The first period ended in a 0-0 tie as both Harper and White made key saves for their programs. Harper leaped down at 30:06 to slap away a rolling shot from Siobhan Lounsbury for their first save of the contest. The Cougars' best chance to go ahead came with 12:52 remaining in the period as a header shot from Cassandra Trevino was redirected away from Harper, however, Sonia Dugger (Belchertown, Mass.) defended the right side and blocked the attempt, which kept the Cougard off the board. Kaitlyn Suller (Oveido, Fla.) opened up the contest with a pair of shots on goal, and Kate Minoudis (Columbia, Conn.) aimed a header shot for the Pride in the 18th-minute for Springfield's most promising attempt, however White picked up the shot.
In the 61st-minute, Clark earned a penalty kick opportunity after a foul in the box, which Emma Tziachris converted to put the Cougars ahead 1-0. Following the goal, Springfield fought to even the score and eventually did, in the 73rd-minute, when Dale took a pass from Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) to the far left side and turned a strike to the opposite post to make it a 1-1 tie and tie Springfield's career goal record. At 76:21, the Pride nearly added another goal when Marissa Martino (Melville, N.Y.) collected a ball in strike from straight-away, but White cupped the shot to keep a one-goal tie. The game was halted at 1-1 up until the 88th-minute when Clark set up a corner that went to Jamie Joseph for a header, however Harper laid out for the save, only to have the rebound fall to Loundsbury for the back heel goal to give Clark the lead and later the victory.
Springfield closes out the regular season on Saturday at Emerson College at 1 pm.
