Springfield, Mass. - October 29, 2022 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team began the 2022-23 campaign with a tri-meet hosting Coast Guard and the University of Rhode Island.
URI was victorious by a score of 188-109, while Coast Guard prevailed over the Pride, 176-117.
In the 400-yard medley relay to start the meet, Springfield's best time came in a 4:07.10 following the efforts of Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.), Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.), Elizabeth Fraser (Westfield, Mass.), and Kay Shen (Hong Kong). Mikaili Charlemagne (Casteries, St. Lucia) recorded a 24.33 time to win the 50-yard freestyle, while Lefteri Roba (Worcester, Mass.) delivered a 11:17.71 in the 1,000 free and took third in the 200 breast in 2:30.67. Shen also delivered impressive performances for the Pride, finishing in the top two in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.86 and delivering a 2:00.16 in the 200-yard freestyle. Fraser would also claim victory in 200 IM following her time of 2:14.16 after previously posting a 5:23.79 in the 500 free.
Baumhauer would complete the 100 back in 1:03.50 and registered a 2:16.01 in the 200 back, while Charlemagne tallied a 1:03.01 in the 100 fly and Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) touched second in the 100 breast in 1:08.68. On the three-meter board, Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) finished in the highest position for the Pride with a mark of 213.10 and also posted a 184.10 on the one-meter.
Springfield closed out the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Charlemagne, Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.), Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.), and Shen who won the event with a time of 1:39.42
The Pride will compete next against MIT at home on November 5 at 1:00 pm.
