Ithaca, N.Y. - November 4, 2022 - The Springfield College wrestling program began the 2022-23 season in the opening day of the Ithaca Invitational on Friday afternoon.

At 133 pounds, Brayan Mendez-Membreno (Port Chester, N.Y.) picked up a 6-0 decision over Nicholas Torres from JWU and another 6-0 decision against Oswego State's Joey Ribitzki to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Pride will have two wrestlers in the quarterfinals at 141 pounds in both Joey Parsons (Waldwick, N.J.) and Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.).  As the sixth seed, Parsons pinned Zachary Weiner from JWU in 6:15, bested Tanner Donathan of Muskingum, 6-3, and prevailed in overtime, 3-1, against Baldwin Wallace's Zachery Anderson.  Stewart, the eighth seed in the weight class, pinned Vito Rodriguez from Castleton in 2:23 to begin his career before delivering a pinfall in 3:35 over Jordan Suarez from JWU.

It was a nice start to the season for Chase Parrott (Stamford, Conn.) at 149 as the No. 3 seed in the tournament produced a 12-1 major decision over WNE's Andy Grabinski and followed with a 6-0 decision over Ithaca's Joseph Averill.  Springfield will also have two wrestlers in the quarters at 157 as sixth-seeded Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) bested Emmanuel Scordos of Baldwin Wallace 10-8 and made quick work of Brian Bienus of Ithaca, pinning him in 44 seconds. Jeremy Scutellaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) also had two wins in the weight class with a win by pinfall in 4:23 against Justin Ritchie from Baldwin Wallace and 10-4 decision versus Castleton's Darius Mangiafico.
