Parrott Claims Title At 149 As Wrestling Finishes Sixth At Ithaca Invitational

Ithaca, N.Y. - November 5, 2022 - The Springfield College wrestling team finished sixth at the Ithaca Invitational over the weekend as it kicked off the 2022-23 campaign.

The Pride would total 80.5 points over the two-day event to finish sixth among the 12 teams in the competition. 

Chase Parrott (Stamford, Conn.) had a tremendous weekend at 149 as he claimed the individual title for the Pride.  Parrott opened up the day with a win by decision over Elijah Cyr from Castleton in the quarterfinals and then outlasted Ithaca's Matthew Beyer, 9-5, in overtime in the semifinals.  In the finals, Parrott cruised to a 7-1 victory against Tyler Rossini from Oswego, 7-1, to win the title as the third seed. 

Sixth-seeded Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) would take third at 157 pounds as he went 4-1 on Saturday.  After losing by technical fall to JWU's Hayden Brown, Deguire pinned Darius Mangiafico of Castleton in 6:45 before putting Emmanuel Scordos of Baldwin Wallace on his back in 1:14.  A 14-9 decision against Travis Jones of Ithaca put Deguire in the third-place bout, and a win by pinfall in 4:51 against JWU's William Hughes allowed the sophomore to finish in third. 

At 141 pounds, Joey Parsons (Waldwick, N.J.) would bounce back from a 5-4 quarterfinal loss to Victor Perlleshi from JWU to battle to overtime wins over Mike Rubino of Delaware Valley, 6-4, and Matthew Garcia from JWU, 9-7.  After a 13-4 setback to Gabriel Leo-Esparolini from JWU in the consolation semifinals, Parsons ended would take sixth in the tournament following a 5-2 defeat to Baldwin Wallace's Zachery Anderson.

Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) had a strong debut for the Pride 165 as he went 4-2 with four victories by pinfall and Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) collected four victories at 285 in his first collegiate action.  

Next weekend, Springfield College will serve as host for the City of Springfield Championships which gets underway at 10 am.
