Bristol, R.I. - December 10, 2022 - Several members of the Springfield College wrestling program competed in the Scott Viera Open on Saturday.
As a team, the Pride finished in third place among the 11 teams in the competition as it produced 50.5 points.
Nicholas Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) won the individual title at 285 pounds as he delivered a pair of victories by pinfall, including besting in Nathan Ickes of Johnson & Wales in 3:41 to claim first place.
Springfield had two wrestlers finish as runner-up, with Jeremy Scutellaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) taking second at 157 and Brayan Mendez-Membreno (Port Chester, N.Y.) placed second at 133. Scutellaro scored a technical fall, major decision, and pinfall before he was edged by Ben Bariso Roger Williams, 6-5, in the finals, while Mendez Membreno used two decisions and a medical forfeit to advance to the title bout.
Additionally, Joe Stuart and Noah Beal Hernandez (North Attleboro, Maine) each registered fourth-place finishes at 285 and 165, respectively
