Worcester, Mass. - December 4, 2022 -The Springfield College women's and men's swimming and diving teams finished in fourth in the 2022 Gompei Invitational at WPI as the third and final day of competition wrapped up on Sunday.
Springfield College scored 3873.5 points in the combined scoring event which featured nine teams from across the region, including Division I squads.
In the 200 back, Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.) earned third-place points for the Pride with a 2:07.13, while Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.) completed the race in 1:58.45 for the men.
Elizabeth Fraser (Westfield, Mass.) was the runner-up in the 100 IM following her time of 1:00.36 and Rocky Tang (Hong Kong) was credited with a 55.01. In the 200 fly Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) clocked in at 2:17.47, and Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) later delivered a third-place time of 1:54.03.
The Pride had two of the top three finishers in the 100 free, with Kay Shen (Hong Kong) sprinting to a runner-up time of 52.47, closely followed by Mikaili Charlemagne's (Casteries, St. Lucia) time of 52.52. On the men's side, Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) produced a 47.28, which was the fourth-fastest time in the event, while Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) took sixth in 47.66.
Nina Lamb's (Killingworth, Conn.) added another individual win to cap off an impressive weekend as she claimed first in the 50 breast in 29.80 and Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added a fifth-place points in the men's race following his 27.39.
In the 1,650 free, Lefteri Roba (Worcester, Mass.) powered her way to touching in 18:32.37 and Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) scored a top-ten finish after posting a 17:04.42.
Springfield's 400 free relay group of Shen, Fraser, Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.), and Charlemange swam a 3:33.67 to finish in second place. The men's top time came from the relay unit of Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.), Tang, Oldenburg, and Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine), who combined for a 3:15.65. Closing out the night, Forsythe, Chamberlin, Fraser, and McMillan notched a 3:28.59 in the mixed 400 free relay.
