Bristol, R.I. - December 9, 2022 - The Springfield College wrestling team delivered a 30-12 victory over host Roger Williams in its first dual meet of the season on Friday night.
Beginning the match at 157 pounds, Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) set the tone early for the Pride as he put his opponent on his back in 1:56 for a first-period pin. Leonard entered the match ranked No. 1 in all of college wrestling in wins by pinfall and now has 14 on the season. The hosts responded with a decision at 165, only to have Max Grzymala (Goldens Bridge, N.Y.) deliver a pin in 6:04 to give the Pride a 12-3 lead.
The Hawks would tack on decisions at 184 and 197 to pull within 12-9 before Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) registered Springfield's third pin of the day at 285 in 6:21. The Manginelli twins would add bonus points in the next two bouts as Joey Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) produced an 18-3 technical fall at 125 and Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) followed with a 17-7 major decision at 133.
Roger Williams would add their fourth decision of the night at 141 and Chase Parrott (Stamford, Conn.) closed out the contest with a 7-1 victory at 149.
The Pride will compete again on Saturday in the Scott Viera Open.
