Wrestling Tops WPI, 24-21, In Final Dual Of The Season

Worcester, Mass. - February 12, 2022 - In its final dual match of the 2021-2022 campaign, the Springfield College wrestling team battled its way to a 24-21 victory at WPI.

The host Engineers jumped out to a 12-0 advantage following a forfeit at 125 and first-period pin at 133.  However, Jacques St. Jean (Goffstown, N.H.) and Joseph Parsons (Waldwick, N.J.) got the Pride halfway back to even with back-to-back decisions at 141 (9-3) and 149 (16-9) pounds respectively and Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) leveled the contest with a pin 46 seconds into his bout at 157.

WPI took the lead back with 16-3 triumph at 165, but Springfield seized control by claiming wins in the next three matches, beginning with a Max Grzymala (Goldens Bridge, N.Y.) 10-4 win at 174 pounds, continuing with a Brayden Grim (Ledyard, Conn.) second period fall at 184 and concluding with a hard-earned John Summers (Fairfield, Conn.) 3-2 victory in perhaps the most competitive bout of the day at 197.  WPI added a pin at 285 to conclude the scoring.

Springfield will now focus on the NEWA Futures Tournament next weekend before hosting the two-day NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday, February 26th and Sunday, February 27th.
