Men's Basketball Falls To Clark

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. - February 16, 2022 - In their final road game of the season, the Springfield College men's basketball team was downed by Clark University, 88-70, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday night.

The victory made Clark 18-6 on the year, including 7-6 in conference play while the Pride slipped to 5-17, 3-10.

Jacob Morales (Montvale, N.J.) turned in a double double with 13 points and 10 boards and Daryl Costa (Providence, R.I.) recorded a team-best 17 points.  Collin Lindsay (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added 15 points and eight caroms for Springfield, which shot 24-for-53 (45%) but was hampered by 23 turnovers.

Costa scored the first four points of the game, before Clark went on a 12-0 run led by seven points from Bruce Saintilus to take a 12-4 edge with 16:10 left in the first half.

Another bucket from Matthew Waggett layup helped push the hosts advantage to 25-11 with 11:16 to go in the first half before Tyler Davern scored Clark's next nine points and triples from Isaiah Taylor and Mikey O'Brien pushed the lead to 16.  Clark would use trifectas from Davern and Saintilus to head into the halftime break with a 46-29 edge.

Davern and Saintilus combined for Clark's first nine points of the second half and an and-one layup from Taylor gave the Cougars a 59-35 lead with 16:26 remaining in the second half.  Costa pulled the Pride within 19 points at the 13:32 mark following a pair from the charity stripe, but a 13-0 run by the Cougars over the next three-plus minutes put the game away as the Cougars pulled away for the conference triumph.

Springfield concludes the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Coast Guard at 1 pm.
