Springfield, Mass. - March 23, 2022 - The Springfield College women's tennis team returned to Appleton Courts for its first home match of the semester and grinded out a 5-4 victory over Connecticut College on Wednesday.
The Pride is now 7-0 on the season as it matched its best start in program history, tying the 1995 squad's start of 7-0.
Springfield owned a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Taylor Suozzo's (Bedford, N.H.) and Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) were first off the court with an 8-4 victory at No. 1, while Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) later followed with an 8-6 win at No. 3.
Rielly Malz (South Glastonbury, Conn.) earned the first singles point of the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4, only to have the Camels respond with wins at No 2., No. 6, and No. 1 singles to gain an 4-3 edge. Suozzo came up with a huge 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5, setting up the deciding point at No. 3 singles.
Manataweewat would bounce back from losing the first set, 6-4, to prevail 6-1, 10-6 to clinch the match for the hosts.
On Saturday, Springfield will continue play on Appleton Courts against Bentley.
