Box Score Springfield, Mass. - March 30, 2022 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team cruised past visiting New Paltz in straight sets in Blake Arena on Wednesday evening by the scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.
In a clash of nationally-ranked teams, Springfield improved to 23-1 on the year as it entered the match as the top-ranked team in the AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll. New Paltz, ranked No. 7 in the national poll, dropped to 17-5.
Springfield's offense hit at a .511 clip on the night as Matt Lilley (Stony Brook, N.Y.) facilitated 24 assists. Brennen Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) led all players with 11 kills at a .625 kitting percentage and added seven digs, while Chris Parker (East Northport, N.Y.) contributed six kills and five blocks. Johjan Mussa Robles (Caguas, Puerto Rico) was credited with nine digs, which matched the entire output of the New Paltz defense on the night.
For the Hawks, which were held to just a .027 hitting percentage, Pat Wing had eight kills.
Springfield jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the match after Giancarlo Carrion (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) blistered one of his three aces on the night to force the Hawks into a timeout. Brandow elevated over the block for a kill at 16-9 and Nate Reynolds (Baltimore, Md.) and Lilley combined for a block for set point and the Hawks would later commit their 10th service error of the frame as the Pride won the opener, 25-17.
In the second, Springfield totaled 13 kills on 19 errorless attempts and held the Hawks to a .000 hitting percentage for the second-straight stanza. Back-to-back kill from Parker put the Pride in control at 11-3 before Noah Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Parker combined for a stuff at 16-4. Parker would total five kills in the set to help the Pride power its way to a 25-15 win.
Springfield got off to another fast start, with Brandow delivering a stuff block at 12-8. Down the stretch, Brandow delivered for the Pride as it closed the match with a 4-0 burst that featured three kills from him en route to the 25-17 win.
Up next for the Pride will be a Friday night match at MIT.
