Box Score Springfield, Mass. - March 8, 2022 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team picked up a straight-set win over Ramapo on Tuesday evening in Blake Arena by the set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 33-31.
The Pride, which was ranked No. 2 in the most recent AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, is now 16-1 on the season, while Ramapo dipped to 9-8.
Springfield hit .463 as a team in the victory as nine student-athletes had at least two kills to help the Pride reach 49 kills in three sets. Both Noah Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Giancarlo Carrion (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico ) each produced 10 kills, Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) chipped in eight kills, and Ethan Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) handed out 31 helpers. Johjan Mussa Robles (Caguas, Puerto Rico) delivered 10 digs and Stiven Topalli (Pogradec, Albania) recorded a match-best seven blocks.
Brennen Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) ripped a ball down the line to give the Pride a 9-4 lead in the first set, and the lead would grow to 18-11 when Brandow converted out of the backrow. Out of a Ramapo timeout, Chris Parker (East Northport, N.Y.) registered an ace for the Pride and Nate Reynolds (Baltimore, Md.) hammered an overpass to make it 22-12. The visitors would make a late push, only to have Brandow terminate his fifth kill of the set for the 25-18 win.
Ramapo burned an early timeout at 10-5 following a triple block from Carrion, Topalli, and Noah Weislo to begin the second set. The advantage would balloon to 20-12 on a big swing from Topalli and Noah Weislo would record his fifth kill of the set as he cranked a kill off the block, the Pride's 17th of the set, for the 25-21 win.
The third set featured 13 ties and four lead changes as the visitors led 21-18 late in the stanza. Springfield would battle back to tie things up at 22-all on a block from Noah Weislo and Topalli and earned match point following back-to-back blocks from Carrion and Topalli. Neither team would back down as they traded points until the Roadrunners committed consecutive attack errors to give the Pride a 33-31 win. Springfield totaled 18 kills in the final set, getting five apiece from Rouleau, Carrion, and Noah Weislo.
Springfield heads to New Paltz on Thursday for a 6 pm showdown.
