Williamsburg, Va. - April 2, 2022 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team delivered an incredible performance at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, scoring a season-best mark of 387.050 on the campus of William & Mary.
With their season-best score, Springfield finished second in the championship, marking the first time since 2012 and only the second time in the last 40-plus years that the Pride was the runner-up in the event. Navy won the title with a 401.850, while host William & Mary took third with a 385.250 and Army was fourth with a 384.850. In fact, it marked the Pride's highest team score since it turned in a 387.850 at William & Mary on February 23, 2020.
In recognition of their efforts, Matt Davis was named the ECAC Coach of the Year, his assistants, Norm Boulerice, Luke Wilcox, and Matt DeGrandpre were named the Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year, and Timothy Templeton (Maynard, Mass.) Was chosen as the ECAC Most Improved Gymnast of the Year. Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) put together a gritty effort in the all-around as he placed fifth with a 75.500.
Starting off the day on the horizontal bar, Felix Kriedemann (Strasslach, Germany) led the way with a sixth-place score of 13.100 and Kyle Lukaesko (Connellsville, Pa.) tallied a 12.800 as the Pride turned in a 62.700 on the event. Moving to the floor, Jakarie Williams (Stockbridge, Ga.) finished fifth with a 13.500 and Templeton hit for a 13.300 to place in sixth to fuel the Pride's 64.600.
On the pommel horse, Colton O'Brien (Crystal Lake, Ill.) came through with a second-place score of 13.100, closely followed by Kriedemann's score of 12.950 for third place. Jaden Laubstein (Oakland, Calif.) added a 12.500 to take fifth as Springfield scored a 60.200.
Juan Gomez (Tallahassee, Fla.) earned a 13.000 on the rings and Ramalho registered a 12.850 before Springfield scored a 67.400 on the vault. Andrae Butler's (Taunton, Mass.) second-place mark of 14.350 led the way, while Williams was credited with a 14.050 as he finished fifth. In the Pride's final rotation, Kriedemann took seventh with a 13.700 on the parallel bars and Ramalho scored a 13.600 as part of the Pride's 67.400 score on the apparatus.
