Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 28, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball program dropped a New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest, 10-3, against Emerson College on Thursday afternoon at Archie Allen Field.
The Pride level out at 17-17 on the season and hold a 9-5 record against league opponents.
Emerson earned the first lead of the game in the top of the third inning after a wild pitched scored one and Morgan knocked in another on the next at bat to take a 2-0 lead. The Pride clipped into the Lions lead in the bottom of the fourth as Noah Bleakley (Granby, Mass.) made his way around the bases courtesy of an error and a wild pitch after being hit by a pitch, which made the deficit just 2-1 for Springfield.
Emerson separated itself from the Pride after scoring two runs in the fifth and three more in the top of the sixth to settle into a 7-1 advantage over the Pride. In the bottom of the sixth, Bleakely scored Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.), who doubled to left earlier in the inning to add another run to the Pride's comeback effort and put the score at 7-2. Emerson totaled a run in the seventh and eighth to build the lead to 9-2, meanwhile, Maynard produced an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 9-3 game. Emerson came away with one run in the ninth to keep the game out of reach and hand Springfield the loss.
The Pride look to bounce back with a weekend series against Coast Guard beginning tomorrow at 3:30.
