Box Score Dudley, Mass. - April 3, 2022 - Competing in its final Division III match of the regular season, the Springfield College men's volleyball team delivered a three-set victory at Nichols on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-17.
The nation's top-ranked team in the most recent AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, Springfield is now 25-1 on the season.
The Pride's offense hit above .500 for the third time in its last four matches as Matt Lilley (Stony Brook, N.Y.) led the visitors to a .511 hitting percentage with 19 assists. Jarrett Anderson (San Jose, Calif.) was dominant on the right side with 11 kills on 15 errorless attepmts to go along with five digs, four aces, and three blocks, while Brennen Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) chipped in five kills and four aces of his own. Troy Von Holt (Melville, N.Y.) and Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each had four blocks as Springfield held the Bison to a .000 hitting percentage on the day.
Springfield scored the first four points of the match and would open up a 17-5 lead after Rouleau ripped a kill for the visitors. The Bison's fourth service error would complete Springfield's 25-12 win as the Pride hit .511 in the game, with Anderson notching four kills, three blocks, and two aces in the stanza.
Brandow blistered three-straight aces to help the Pride surge out to a 12-5 advantage in the second set and a pair of aces from Giancarlo Carrion (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) allowed Springfield to push its lead to 19-9. Anderson later ripped Springfield's seventh ace of the set for the 25-16 win.
Neither team found much of an offensive flow in the third as each squad had nine service errors in the set. The Pride snapped a six-all tie with a 4-1 burst that was capped off by a block from Von Holt and Rouleau. From there, Springfield didn't let Nichols get closer than three points and Brandow sealed the win by muscling a ball through the block for a 25-17 win.
Springfield will play its final match of the regular season on Wednesday when it hosts Sacred Heart at 6 pm.
