Baseball Finishes Regular Season With Split Against Coast Guard

Springfield, Mass. - April 30, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball program posted 15-hits in the first game en route to a 13-3 victory in seven innings, before losing 7-1 in the second game to split with Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season finale at Archie Allen Field. 

Springfield finishes the regular season at 19-18 and 11-6 in conference play. The Pride shift its focus to the NEWMAC Championship Tournament next week.

Springfield 13, Coast Guard 3 

Springfield faced a 3-0 deficit after three innings as Coast Guard buried six hits over the first three innings to own the early lead. The Pride brought the game to a tie following back-to-back home runs from Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) and Noah Bleakely (Granby, Mass.) in the fourth inning to make it a 3-3 ball game. 

Springfield continued its hot streak in the bottom of the fifth with seven runs in the inning behind four-straight RBI hits. Jack Simonetty (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) capped off the burst with an RBI double to the gap to put the Pride ahead 10-3. 

Luke DiMauro (Haddam, Conn.) hit a single with two outs to bring in Bleakley in the sixth inning, before a two-RBI single through the left side from Joe Penkala (Warren, R.I.) put the score at 13-3. The Pride left two runners on in the seventh inning to lock in the first win of the day. 

Coast Guard 7, Springfield 1

Coast Guard began the game up 4-0 after the fourth inning as the Bears ripped back-to-back RBI base hits in the inning to take the early lead, meanwhile, the Bears added three more to its total in the top of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth, Springfield posted its first run of the game after hitting three consecutive singles concluding with a Dimauro RBI hit to make the game 7-1. From there, the Pride were forced into three outs and dropped the second game of the doubleheader.
