Springfield, Mass. - September 10, 2022 - The Springfield College men's soccer program fought to a 1-0 win over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field

The Pride collected its first win of the season and now are 1-1-1 overall. Gordon is 1-3 on the year. Springfield outshot Gordon, 12-11, and earned five corners in the victory. 

Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) put together his second shutout effort of the week for the Pride with four saves.  

Knibbs opened up the contest with a diving save for the Pride, which continued to be the case for the half. Each team earned promising chances, yet none developed into goals. Knibbs collected his second save of the half at 26:52, as Cole Levis sent a shot that Knibbs tracked on perfectly and scooped up for the Pride to keep the game locked at 0-0. The Pride continued to attack offensively with four attempts in the last 10 minutes of the half. With 10 seconds left, Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) strided down field and had a one on one, that ended the half with a punch out effort from Lucak to keep it 0-0 going into the half. 

Both teams still could not find an edge in the second period. At 55:51, Gordon was awarded a corner that proved to be a threatening chance for the Scots, yet Knibbs barreled through the crowd to come out and prevent the score. The deadlock finally ended when Thornton carried the ball to the box, dumped it to Koul Majok (Lynn, Mass.), who finished off the give-and-go back to Thornton for the easy score to give the Pride a 1-0 lead in the 69th-minute. Highlighted by the play of Jack Costa (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Martin McDermott (Pearl River, N.Y.), the Pride hunkered down defensively and only allowed three shots from the Scots in the final 20 minutes to ease to the 1-0 win. 

Springfield will take on Stevens tomorrow on the road at 7:00.
