Box Score Boston, Mass. - September 17, 2022 - Two second-half goals propelled Emerson past the Springfield College men's soccer team, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
With the result, Emerson is now 3-0-3, 1-0 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield falls to 1-3-2, 0-1 in conference play. Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) was credited with eight saves, while his counterpat Matthew Mueller totaled 12 stops. Both teams had 17 shots in the contest and the Pride held a slight 8-7 edge in corner kicks. Springfield played the final 15 minutes a man down after it received a red card.
Following a scoreless first half, the Pride was whistled for a foul in the box and Gregory Kopanezos slotted home the game's first goal into the bottom right corner in the 53rd minute. The hosts tacked on an insurance goal in the 83rd minute, as Ben Deeming connected with Jonah Delbanco, who raced up the left shoulder before cutting into the box and burying a shot just out of Knibbs' reach.
Springfield will host Worcester State on Tuesday evening at 7 pm.
