Springfield, Mass. - September 24, 2022 - In its first match of the season, the Springfield College men's tennis team rallied for a thrilling 5-4 triumph over visiting Gordon on Saturday at Appleton Courts. 

The Pride showed plenty of resolve as it bounced back from dropping all three doubles matches to earn five victories in singles play to rally to the non-conference victory.

Trailing 3-0 heading into singles, Springfield dropped the first singles match of the afternoon to go down 4-0.  However, Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) got things rolling for the Pride with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 before Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3.  Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, México) toughed out a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 and Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) evened the match up at 4-4 following his 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

With the match on the line, Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) manufactured a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 to clinch the Pride's comeback.  

Next up for the Pride will be a home showdown with Endicott on Tuesday at 3 pm.
