Box Score

Framingham, Mass. - September 27, 2022 - The Springfield College men's soccer program suffered a 2-1 loss on the road against Framingham State on Wednesday night.

Springfield are now 1-5-2 on the year. Framingham ups its record to 5-3-1. Springfield outshot the Rams, 26-12.

Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) added four saves in the setback.

Springfield was aggressive offensively in the early goings as the Pride outshot the Rams 8-2 in the first 34 minutes and received tremendous opportunities, including header try from Martin McDermott (Pearl River, N.Y.) in the 18th-minute that connected with the post. At 35:15, the Rams pulled ahead of Springfield as Gustav Hemmingsen crossed the ball to Bryce Nardizzi for the score to go up 1-0, then, accounted for the hosts' second goal as Knibbs fended off his initial penalty kick, yet Hemmingsen was able to knock the rebound in to add to the total at 2-0. Knibbs cleared away a spurt of shots to hold off the Rams for the rest of the half.

The Pride opened the half with more offensive chances and another athletic effort from McDermott that resulted in contact with the post again. The Rams had limited success extending its lead in the second, while Springfield continued to find a goal to cut into the deficit. The first six shots of half were either saved Hartshorn or blocked defensively. Following a foul at 75:11, Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) lined up a free kick and ripped a shot that zipped into the right corner of the net for Springfield's first goal of the game to pinch into the Framingham lead at 2-1. Springfield continued to fight to tie the contest at two apiece with a strong attack throughtout the remainder of the half. In the final minute of the contest, the Pride nearly earned the tie as McDermott sprinted towards an incoming cross for another header try, however the shot flew outside the frame and kept the decision at 2-1.

Springfield looks to bounce back this Saturday at Brock-Affleck Field in NEWMAC play against WPI at 1:00.
