Springfield, Mass. - September 27, 2022 - The Springfield College men's tennis team earned its second victory of the season as it battled past visiting Endicott, 7-2, at Appleton Courts on Tuesday.
A year removed from falling to the Gulls by an 8-1 margin, Springfield benefitted from rallying for three singles points in three sets en route to the non-conference win.
In doubles action, James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Eric Nicander (Stockholm, Sweden) produced an 8-3 at No. 3, while the duo of Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, México) and Mike Kendrick (Watervliet, N.Y.) pulled out an 8-7 triumph at No. 2.
Nicander added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 and Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) collected a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 for the Pride in the hosts only straight-set victories in singles. Sichen Ni (Hefei, Anhui, China) rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 win at the top spot, as did Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) at No. 2 with his 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win. Villanueva Abad was the Pride's other singles win as he also bounced back from a first set loss with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 win.
On Thursday, Springfield will host Stonehill at 3:30 pm.
