Wellesley, Mass. - January 21, 2023 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team bested their competition on Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet. Springfield would topple host Wellesley, 182-110, and down Smith College, 230-60.
The Pride's 200-yard medley team of Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.), Mikaili Charlemagne (Casteries, St. Lucia), and Kay Shen (Hong Kong) would capture second place to start the event off the day with a time of 1:52.73.
Shen would later capture first place in the 50 free and in the 100 freestyle, clipping the competition with a time of 24.92 and 54.37 respectively. Lamb would grab a top-three finish in the 200 breast, touching in 2:31.22. Charlemagne would land a first-place time in the 100 butterfly, with her 1:01.17 time besting the competition.
Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) would impress in the 1,000 free as she swam to a first-place finish in 10:55.00 and would add another first-place honor later into the day, as she was victorious in the 500 free as well with a mark of 5:21.73.
In the 200 free, Lefteri Roba (Worcester, Mass.) grabbed a first-place finish in 2:00.79 with Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) finishing second in 2:04.85. For the 100 back, Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.) finished with a solid performance placing second, slotting in a time of 1:02.61, while at the 100 breast, it was Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) who swam to second place in 1:09.13. Baumhauer later recorded a second-place finish at the 200 back, as she produced a time of 2:13.11.
Elizabeth Fraser (Westfield, Mass.) nabbed another second place for the Pride in the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:19.80, while in the 400 individual medley, Fraser registered a time of 4:47.55, grabbing her another second-place finish.
On the one-meter diving board, Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) received high scores, as she achieved a second-place finish with 197.25 points. Later in the afternoon, Crawford would follow up with another second-place finish at the three-meter board, finishing with a score of 196.10.
The team of Shen, Roba, Chamberlain, and Charlemagne took home first place in the 400 free relay, closing the day out with a time of 3:42.74.
Springfield will be back at home next week to face Trinity on Saturday, January 28.
