Springfield, Mass. - January 27, 2023 - Wrestling under the lights in Blake Arena, the Springfield College wrestling team powered past visiting Wesleyan, 33-3, on Friday night.
The win boosted the Pride's dual meet record to 9-4 on the season, while the Hawks dipped to 6-6. The Pride won nine of the 10 bouts on the evening, highlighted by Michael Filieri's (Garfield, N.J.) pin at 285.
Starting off the match at 141 pounds, Joey Parsons (Waldwick, N.J.) grinded out a 12-9 decision before Chase Parrott (Stamford, Conn.) added a 10-4 decision of his own at 149. Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) followed with an 8-4 decision at 157 and Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) prevailed by a 5-3 decision at 165. After a setback at 174, Casey Allen (Park Ridge, N.J.) wrestled tough en route to a 9-6 decision at 184, and Doug Clark (Lynn, Mass.) scored a late takedown to secure an 8-5 decision at 197.
Filieri then provided the fireworks for the evening with a bruising pin in 4:30 at 285. Springfield collected bonus points in the final two points of the night as Joey Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) registered an 18-3 technical fall at 125 and Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) closed out the evening with a 12-2 major decision at 133.
Springfield will compete again this weekend in both the Wildcat Open and the John Reese Duals.
