Providence. R.I. - January 29, 2023 - The Springfield College wrestling program had several standout performances at the Wildcat Open on Sunday, which was hosted by Johnson & Wales.
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) put together a strong day going 5-1 to place third at 141 pounds. Kozdra managed to rack up four pinfalls in his five wins on the day, including a strong final match over Nicholas DeSola of Johnson & Wales and he produced a pin in the opening minute of the third-place bout.
At 157 pounds, Jeremy Scutellaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) placed fourth at the Wildcat Open after falling to Jacob Woodburn of Coast Guard by decision 2-1 in the third-place match. After receiving a bye in the first round, Scutellaro managed to finish the day with a 3-2 record with two wins by decision and a first round pinfall win over David Ras of Roger Williams. At 165 pounds, Noah Beal Hernandez (North Waterboro, Maine) also placed fourth. The sophomore went 3-2 on the day and bounced back from a semifinal setback to reach the consolation finals.
Additionally, Lucien Perla (Stow, Mass.) earned three victories at 149, as did Nicholas Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) at 285.
