Oneonta, N.Y. - January 7, 2023 - Competing for the first time since the calendar turned to 2023, the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team cruised to a tri-meet win on Saturday. The Pride eased past Union, 221-59, and downed host Hartwick by a 230-50 margin.
Beginning the afternoon in the 200 medley relay, Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) , Mikaili Charlemagne (Casteries, St. Lucia), Kay Shen (Hong Kong) swam a winning time of 1:53.54.
In the 1,000 free, Lefteri Roba (Worcester, Mass.) won by over 30 seconds as she completed the race in 11:23.58, and she later won the 100 breast in 1:10.45 and the 200 breast in 2:32.08.
Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) took first in the 200 free in 2:03.26 and tallied first-place points in the 500 free after swimming a 5:30.56, while Blenk was victorious in the 100 back in 1:02.63 and placed first in the 200 back with a 2:17.15. Athanas produced the Pride's best time in the 200 fly in 2:24.92, Charlemagne sprinted her way to first place in the 50 free with a 24.73, and Shen was victorious in the 100 free following her race of 55.75.
Elizabeth Fraser (Westfield, Mass.) recorded a 1:02.58 to win the 100 fly and Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) swam a 2:17.64 to win the 200 IM. On the one-meter board, Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) delivered a winning score of 174.65 and was the winner on the three-meter with her mark of 178.25.
In the last event of the day, Shen, Fraser, Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.), and Lamb outtouched the competition to win the 200 free relay in 1:42.56.
Springfield will compete in another tri-meet next Saturday in Connecticut against Wesleyan and Roger Williams.
