Box Score Worcester, Mass. - October 10, 2023 - The Springfield College men's soccer team and Worcester State University played to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference bout at John F. Coughlin Memorial Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Springfield evened its record to 4-4-4, while Worcester State moved to 2-5-4 this year.
The Pride held a 19-5 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, but could only find the back of the net once as senior Chris Cruz (Greenwich, Conn.) notched his team-leading third goal of the season and first strike of the game for either side in the 52nd minute. Cruz finished a pass from junior Carter Gibson (Old Saybrook, Conn.) for the 1-0 edge. Carter's assist marked the first point and assist of his collegiate career.
Just 12 minutes later, however, Worcester State knotted the game at 1-1 as Matthieu Bayonne found the equalizer on an unassisted strike - his first tally of the season.
Over the final 27 minutes of play, Springfield peppered the net with six shots but Worcester State keeper Andy Ramirez stopped three of the attempts, while the other three sailed high resulting in the 1-1 draw.
Springfield keeper Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) moved to 4-4-4 with two saves between the pipes for the Pride.
Springfield will travel to WPI for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt with the Engineers beginning at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 14.
