Box Score Wellesley, Mass. – October 21, 2023 – Sophomore Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.) scored both goals for Springfield College women's soccer as the Pride earned a 2-0 shutout win at Wellesley College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play this afternoon.
Springfield, which picked up three more points in the NEWMAC standings, improved to 8-4-2 overall and to 6-2-1 (19 points) in the league, while Wellesley fell to 3-3-5, 2-3-4. The win also secured a berth to the 2023 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament for the Springfield College Pride for the 18th consecutive season and second straight under the direction of head coach Kristin Cannon.
McGrath notched her fifth goal of the season in the 21st minute as she finished a pass from sophomore Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) and then just 14 minutes later registered Springfield's second tally off a feed from first-year Natalya Pennant (Windsor, Conn.).
Springfield keeper Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) held strong for the Pride between the pipes as she tied her season-high with 12 stops this afternoon in her fifth clean sheet of the year to improve to 6-4-3 overall.
Wellesley posted a 24-16 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, but it was Springfield which made the most of its opportunities in the 2-0 victory.
Springfield will host Babson College in its final regular season home game on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:00 pm on Brock-Affleck Field.
