Springfield, Mass. – November 11, 2023 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team split its double dual meet this afternoon with New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Wheaton College and non-conference foe Keene State College.
The Pride eased by Keene State, 219-78, but were edged by Wheaton, 157.5-141.5.
Springfield junior Kay Shen (Hong Kong) powered the Pride's efforts with three individual first place finishes and a runner-up finish in the 400-free relay. Shen claimed wins in the 200-free (1:59.09), 50-free (24.33) and the 100-free (53.17) and then teamed up with junior Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.), senior Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.) and junior Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) for a second place finish in the 400-free relay (3:39.47).
Individually, junior Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) also produced a pair of first place finishes for Springfield in the 100-breast (1:06.70) and the 200-breast (2:28.49) as well as a second place finish in the 200-IM (2:14.49) after she teamed up for a win with the 200-medley relay squad of senior Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Kelaher and Chamberlin with a time of 1:50.12 to open the meet.
Sophomore Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) tallied a pair of runner-up finishes in the distance events for the Pride as she touched the wall in a time of 11:21.68 in the 1000-free and 5:32.31 in the 500-free, while senior Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) notched a trio of third place finishes in the 1000-free (11:28.99), the 100-breast (1:11.81) and the 200-breast (2:34.15).
In the diving well, senior Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) finished second on the 1-meter board with a score of 232.55 and third on the 3-meter board with a mark of 221.65, while sophomore Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) was the runner-up on the 3-meter board with a score of 230.70.
Springfield will be back in action next Saturday, November 18 with a dual meet at No. 4 Williams College beginning at 1:00 pm.
