Cal-Berkeley Slips Past Men's Gymnastics In Virtual Meet

Springfield, Mass. - February 17, 2023 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team battled against California-Berkeley in a virtual setting on Friday afternoon in Dana Gymnasium.  The Pride was edged by a 381.200-376.350 margin.

The two teams squared off in similar fashion in 2021 during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic when men's gymnastics meets were taking place in a virtual setting. Today, Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) finished the afternoon with a 76.350 in the all-around competition and teammate Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) totaled a 75.000.

Andrae Butler (Taunton, Mass.) returned to the lineup and hit for a career-best score of 13.550 on the floor exercise to finish in second place, while Ramalho turned in a 13.100 to place third.  On the pommel horse, Kaplan took second with a career-best mark of 13.100 and Colton O'Brien (Crystal Lake, Ill.) registered a 13.000 to finish in third.

Springfield had five of the top six scores on the still rings, with David Handron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) leading the way as he scored a 13.550 to take second.  Ramalho added a 13.100 for third place and Dylan Colangelo (Youngstown, Ohio) placed fourth after he earned a 12.850.

Buter again had the Pride's best performance on the vault and scored a 13.950 for fourth place and Tyler Beekman (Bedford, N.H.) hit for a career-best 13.750 to round out the top five in the event.  On the parallel bars, Ramalho picked up runner-up honors with a 12.800 while Beekman was the Pride's next highest scorer with his 12.400.

Springfield finished off the meet strong with three of the top four scores on the horizontal bar, led by Ramalho's second-place score of 12.600.  Jaden Laubstein (Oakland, Calif.) delivered a 12.100 for third and Kaplan was in fourth following his 12.050.

Springfield will next travel to Iowa for a showdown with Simpson on March 5.
