Worcester, Mass. - February 18, 2023 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team concluded the third day New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday at WPI. The Pride maintained its third-place standing among the 10 teams in the championship and now has 506 points.
It was a historic end to the night for the Pride as it broke the oldest relay record that was standing in program history. The 200 medley relay record had stood since 2009, but on Saturday night, the squad of Kay Shen (Hong Kong), Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Mikaili Charlemagne (Gros Islet, St. Lucia), and Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) swam a 1:44.27 and finished fourth in the race.
Lamb previously swam a NCAA "B" cut time of 1:04.47 in the 100 breast as she placed third, while teammate Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) took 10th in 1:07.28.
In the 400 IM, Elizabeth Fraser (Westfield, Mass.) took fourth after registering a 4:34.78, while Charlemagne added a fourth-place finish of her own in the 100 fly with a 56.57. In the 200 free, Shen completed the race in 1:55.69 en route to seventh-place points. Springfield also had two swimmers in the top eight of the 100 back, with Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.) recording a 58.38 for sixth and Blenk taking eighth in 58.77.
