Box Score Springfield, Mass. - March 1, 2023 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team swept visiting Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday night by the scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.
Springfield, ranked fifth in this week's AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, previously swept Eastern Nazarene on Saturday and owns a 16-2 record on the year.
Jarrett Anderson (Largo, Fla.) paced Springfield with 13 kills on a .667 hitting percentage while Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) was credited with 35 assists and four aces. Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) came off the bench to record eight kills and four aces as Springfield finished the night with 15 winners from the end line en route to holding the Lions to a -.023 team hitting percentage.
The visitors jumped out to an 8-6 lead, all of Pride miscues, as Springfield called for an early timeout. Springfield would regain a 13-12 edge when Anderson went over the top of the block to bounce a kill, only to have Lions knot up the frame at 16-16 following the fifth attack error of the match for the hosts. However, Joel DeCamp (Simi Valley, Calif.) would side out to kickstart a 5-0 scoring run for the Pride, which was capped off by Anderson hammering a crosscourt kill in transition. After a kill from ENC stemmed the tides, Springfield would score the final four points of the set, getting back-to-back aces by Durivage to complete the 25-17 triumph.
Ethan Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) would blister an ace to give Springfield an early 8-5 lead in the second and Anderson crushed a ball down the line to push the advantage to 13-9. The visitors would battle back to within 17-15, but the hosts closed things out with an 8-1 burst for another 25-17 win as Durivage again came up with two key aces.
Springfield would finally find its offensive rhythm in the third, hitting at a .500 clip behind five kills from Durivage. Holding onto a 13-11 lead, Springfield broke open the frame with a 6-1 run, as DeCamp converted out of the middle following a Lions timeout to make it 19-12. Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) would conclude the three-set sweep as he put a ball away in system out of the middle to wrap up the 25-16 triumph.
Springfield will host Endicott on Saturday at 2 pm.
