Box Score Springfield, Mass. - March 1, 2023 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team strung together eight unanswered goals spanning the second and third quarters to surge past Framingham State, 21-14, in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Playing in its home opener, the Pride delivered head coach Jenn Thomas her first career victory at the helm of program as Springfield improved to 1-1 on the year. The Rams evened their record to 1-1 with the loss.
In a game where Springfield held a 42-27 advantage in shots, Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) turned in a career-high eight points off six goals and two assists, while Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) pumped in a career-best five strikes of her own. Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) was credited with four helpers and a goal and Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) found the back of the cage three times. Gianna Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was dominant with eight draw controls in helping Springfield to a 21-18 cushion in that category, and Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) made eights stops in three quarters worth of work.
Framingham State was paced by a trio of athletes off of whom recorded five points in Regan Fein, Leah Green, and Hannah Guerin. Isabella DiMare totaled 11 saves in the loss.
Even at 2-2 midway through the first quarter, Springfield produced three goals in a 2:20 span, all coming from O'Connor, with her strike at 2:09 giving the Pride a 5-2 edge. The Rams would answer with a three-goal spurt of their own in a 91-second stretch to even things up a 5-5 with 10:56 remaining in the half. From there, Springfield would take complete control of the game five-straight goals to close out the stanza and head into the break with a 10-5 edge. Andresen would conclude the first half with her third marker of the game with 51 ticks on the clock.
Springfield would begin the second half with three-straight goals, with O'Connor scoring at 13:06 to cap off the hosts eight-goal scoring run. The Rams would score their first goal in over 14 minutes as Guerin got free in transition to make it a 13-6 game, but the Pride would answer with a 4-1 push as Lily Johnson tucked a shot under the cross bar on the run to make it a 17-7 contest at 4:53. All told, Springfield would score eight goals in the quarter and head into the fourth with a 18-9 edge.
The visitors would score five times in the fourth, getting as close as 19-13, but Andresen found the back of the cage for the fifth time and Lilly Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) added a marker of her own late as the Pride would cruise to the
