Deguire and Parrott Earn All-America Honors As Wrestling Finishes 14th at NCAA Division III Championships

Roanoke, Va. - March 11, 2023 - Springfield College's Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Chase Parrott (Stamford, Conn.) capped off an incredible weekend at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at the Berglund Center as they each earned All-America honors.

The duo scored 30 points, allowing Springfield College to finish 14th as a team in the national competition. It's the eighth time in Division III program history that the Pride has finished inside the top 15 in the country and best finish since the 2013 squad took eighth.  Deguire would take third at 157 pounds and Parrot placed seventh at 149 pounds as it was the first time since 2014 that Springfield College has had a wrestler earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championship and first time since 2013 that it had multiple student-athletes collect national honors.

Deguire set a NCAA record for most pins in a championship tournament as he produced six pinfalls while going 6-1 on the weekend.  After taking third, it is the highest finish at a NCAA Championship for a Springfield College wrestler since Devin Biscaha won the national title at 157 pounds in 2013. Additionally, Deguire concluded his sophomore season with 30 pins, currently the most in all of college wrestling and matching Messiah's Hunter Harris' total from 2017 for the most in Division III history since the NCAA starting tracking the statistic.

Going up against regional opponent Peter Kane of Williams in his first match on Saturday, Deguire fell behind early, only to produce another first-period pinfall in 2:24. In the consolation semifinals, Deguire drew the nation's top-ranked wrestler, David Hollingsworth from Wartburg, but Deguire brought the crowd to their feet with a pin in just 12 seconds.  Deguire then finished off his weekend in fitting fashion, putting third-seeded Zeke Smith from Loras on his back in 5:15, concluding a remarkable run against the nation's best.

For Parrott, it was a special end to his career as he earned a spot on the podium and placed seventh at 149 pounds.  Going up against eighth-seeded Chase Sumner from Ohio Northern in his first match of the day, Parrott was upended by a 7-3 decision, but bounced back by knocking off seventh-seeded Charlie Stuhl of Augsburg by a 5-3 decision to finish off his career on a victory.  The senior ended his 2023 season with a 29-5 record.
