Springfield, Mass. - March 18, 2023 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team competed against Army for the second time this season and were clipped by the Knights by a score of 396.650-392.100, on Saturday afternoon at West Point.
It marked the Pride's highest score since 2017 when it tallied a 392.200 in the ECAC Championships.
The Pride's best event of the day came in the vault, finishing with a team score of 70.700 to win the event. Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) secured first place with a score of 14.450. Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) was the runner-up in the event, finishing with a score of 14.400 to finish second. Andrae Butler (Taunton, Mass.) rounded out the Pride's top-three finishers in the competition with a score of 14.000.
In the floor exercise competition, Ramalho took second place with a score of 13.800, while Carney finished right behind him with a score of 13.500 to finish in third. Timothy Templeton (Maynard, Mass.) rounded out the pack with a score of 13.300 to land him in fourth place to help his team land an overall score of 66.300 in the event.
The Pride then pieced together a team score of 64.900 on the pommel horse. Jaden Laubstein (Oakland, Calif.) and Juan Gomez (Tallahassee, Fla.) led the way for the Pride with scores of 13.500 as the two teammates tied for second place in the event. Carter Cochardo (Cicero, N.Y.) finished the event with a 13.000 score to round out the Pride's top-three finishers.
In the rings, Springfield was led by Ramalho, as he recorded a score of 12.900 to finish tied for second place in the event. Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) took fourth place in the event with a score of 12.800. David Handron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a 12.700 to finish tied for fifth place to help pace the Pride to a team score of 62.700.
On the high bar, the Pride were led by the efforts of Felix Kriedemann (Strasslach, Germany) who scored an even 13.000 to secure a second-place finish. Carney finished in the top four of the event with a score of 12.800. Kaplan finished right behind his teammate with a score of 12.700, resulting in a 63.100 team score.
Springfield will now shift its focus towards the USGA Championships, which will begin on March 24th.
