No. 4 Men's Volleyball Coasts Past SUNY Potsdam and Sage

Albany, N.Y. - March 25, 2023 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team returned to the court for the first time since March 9 and cruised to straight-set victories over SUNY Potsdam and Sage on Saturday afternoon.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 4 in the latest AVCA Division III National Poll, improved to 20-2 on the season. 

This upcoming Tuesday, Springfield will host Elms at 6 pm.

Springfield 3, SUNY Potsdam 0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15)

Jarrett Anderson (Largo, Fla.) led the way for Springfield with 13 kills on a .706 hitting percentage on the right side as Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) handed out 29 assists in helping Springfield hit .377 in the winRyan Roller (West Hartford, Conn.) totaled four of the Pride's 11 aces and Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed five kills and four blocks as Potsdam was limited to a .077 hitting percentage.

Anderson ripped an early ace to make it 5-1 and would later team up with Rouleau for a block at 15-7 as Potsdam called for a timeout. Roller would cap of the 25-15 win with his second ace of the day as Springfield hit .474 in the opener.

Springfield fell behind 6-1 in the second and wasted no time taking a timeout.  The Pride would answer with a 12-6 push, getting a block from Rouleau and Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) to take a 13-12 lead that it would not relinquish.  Talon Kohler (Tucson, Ariz.) pumped an ace on set point to complete the 25-21 win.

SUNY Potsdam was held to a -.133 hitting percentage in the third, while the Pride hit .400 behind four kills from Anderson.  Springfield used a 5-2 burst midway through the frame, capped off by another ace from Kohler, to gain a 17-12 lead en route to the 25-15 triumph.

In the sweep of Sage, Springfield racked up 19 service aces, including 11 from Ryan Roller (West Hartford, Conn.), which is the fourth most for an individual in a three-set Division III match this year.  Sage hit -.122 in the setback, while the Pride hit at a .489 clip as 10 student-athletes had at least one kill, including a match-high seven from Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.).
 
It was a tremendous start to the match offensively as Springfield hit .706 in the first set, totaling 13 kills, including three from Durivage and Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.).  Tied up at 8-8, Springfield closed out the set on a 17-6 run, with Roller's fourth ace of the set completing the 25-14 win. 

In the second, Roller would account for four early aces as part of a 6-0 burst to start the match as the Pride cruised to a 25-12 win. 

In the third, Springfield used a 6-1 burst to bounce back from a 10-7 deficit as it surged ahead by a 13-11 margin after a kill from Roller. A late serving run from Seth Brown (Souderton, Pa.) which featured a pair of aces would wrap up the sweep in the 25-16 third-set triumph.
