Indianola, Iowa - March 5, 2023 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team competed in its first-ever tri-meet against NCAA Division III programs as it clashed with Simpson and Greenville on Sunday afternoon.
Greenville posted a 384.750 to win the competition, followed by Springfield's score of 381.050 and Simpson's mark of 357.550.
The Pride had the top two finishers in the all-around competition behind a pair of career-best outings as Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) totaled a 77.400 for first-place honors and Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) added a 77.150 as each produced the best all-around scores during their time at Springfield.
Ramalho would win the floor with a 13.500, while Felix Kriedemann (Strasslach, Germany) scored a 13.250 for third-place and Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) added a 13.200 to tie for fourth.
On the pommel horse, Colton O'Brien (Crystal Lake, Ill.) earned runner-up honors with a 12.850, Juan Gomez (Tallahasee, Fla.) was credited with a 12.550 for fourth, and Kaplan and Jaden Laubstein (Oakland, Calif.) turned in 12.500's to finish inside the top five of the event.
Kaplan and David Handron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tied for first place on the still rings with 12.950's and Dylan Colangelo (Youngstown, Ohio) registered a 12.450, while on the vault, Ramalho took second with a 14.450, while Carney and Andrae Butler (Taunton, Mass.) tied for sixth with 13.950's.
Ramalho and Kaplan tied for first on the parallel bars after producing 13.500's and Noah Dhaliwal (South Orange, N.J.) scored a 12.950. Kriedemann also was victorious on the high bar with his winning score of 13.150, while Kaplan was fourth after earning a 12.500 and Dhaliwal totaled a 12.400 for a top-five finish.
Springfield will compete again on March 18 at Army.
