Springfield, Mass. - April 12, 2023 - After winning its last two conference outings, the Springfield College men's tennis team was defeated by Babson, 9-0, on Wednesday in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meeting.
Springfield is now 9-8 on the year and 3-2 versus NEWMAC competition as Babson entered the match ranked No. 23 in the latest poll.
Springfield's No. 2 doubles team of Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Mike Kendrick (Watervliet, N.Y.) produced the Pride's best showing to start the match with an 8-5 setback. At No. 4 singles, Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) took the first set 6-4 before he was clipped 7-6 (3), 10-4. Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, México) dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 2, and Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) fell at No. 5, 6-3-64.
Springfield concludes the regular season on Saturday when it travels to Coast Guard for a 1 pm meeting.
