Springfield, Mass. - April 6, 2023 - The Springfield College women's tennis team was defeated by nationally-ranked Babson, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) showdown on Appleton Courts.
With the threat of rain in the forecast, the match started with singles play. Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) was clipped by a 6-0, 6-3 margin at No. 2, while Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) fell by a 6-3, 6-0 score at No. 6 to highlight the Pride's efforts.
In doubles play, Springfield's No. 3 team of McGoldrick and Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) were clipped, 8-5, while Heaney-Secord and Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 1.
The Pride will continue conference play on Saturday when it travels to Smith.
