Springfield, Mass. - September 12, 2023 - A goal by sophomore Ryan Berecz (Fairfield, Conn.) in the 32nd minute was enough to lift the Springfield College men's soccer team to its first win of the 2023 campaign as the Pride blanked Curry College, 1-0, in a non-conference matchup on Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield, which held a 14-6 edge in shots and took seven in each of the 45 minute periods, found the game's first goal 31:43 into the contest as first-year Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) flicked the ball to Berecz for the 1-0 lead. Both Policarpio and Berecz recorded their first collegiate points as well as their first goal and assist, respectively, in the victory.

That was all the offense the Pride needed tonight for their first win of the season. Springfield keeper Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.), in a complete 90-minute effort, made three saves for his second shutout victory of the season and of his career.

Springfield will open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, September 16 with a home matchup with Emerson College slated for 1:00 pm on Brock-Affleck Field.
