Springfield, Mass. – January 13, 2024 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team put together a dominant performance this afternoon as the Pride eased by both Union College and Hartwick College in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield defeated Union by a score of 184-87 and Hartwick by a 185-81 final for its second and third dual meet victories of the season.
The Pride began the day with a 1-2 sweep in the 200-medley relay as senior
Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), junior
Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.), junior
Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior
Kay Shen (Hong Kong) won the event in 1:50.22 and were followed by
senior Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.), senior
Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.), junior
Maddie Symecko (Southington, Conn.) and junior
Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) in second with a time of 1:55.46.
Lamb went on to individually win the 100-breast (1:06.38) and the 200-breast (2:27.95), while Shen paced the Pride in both the 50-free (24.47) and the 100-free (53.19). Behind Shen in the 50-free was Kelaher in second (25.44), Chamberlin in third (25.80) and first-year
Natalie Norbut (Bristol, Conn.) in fourth (26.58). Chamberlin and first-year
Evie Clark (Canton, Ga.) were also second and third, respectively, in the 100-free in 56.90 and 57.31.
Sophomore
Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) won the 1000-free in 11:16.89 and posted the fastest time in the 200-IM in 2:19.82. There were six other student-athletes who individually won swimming events today as Clark won the 200-free (2:01.69), Blenk won the 100-back (1:02.43), first-year
Erica Kerner (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won the 200-fly (2:24.61), Baumhauer won the 200-back (2:13.56), Athanas won the 500-free (5:28.39) and Kelaher won the 100-fly (1:02.59).
In the diving well, senior
Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) placed first on the 1-meter board with a score of 388 and sophomore
Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) placed first on the 3-meter board with a score of 395.
In the final event of the meet, the 200-free relay, Shen, Lamb, Kelaher and Chamberlin posted the fastest time with a mark of 1:40.65 and were followed by Baumhauer, Norbut, Savoie and Athanas in 1:46.34.
Springfield will host Wesleyan University (Conn.) and Roger Williams University next Saturday in another double dual meet inside Art Linkletter Natatorium beginning at 1:00 pm.
