Springfield, Mass. - January 28, 2024 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team was clipped in its 2024 home opener by Rhode Island College, 186.200-184.775, this afternoon in Blake Arena.
Springfield's best score came on the floor exercise as the Pride combined for 48.350 points. Individually, sophomore Stacy Taylor (Biddeford, Maine) recorded a second place finish in the event with a mark of 9.775 and was followed in fourth by both senior Rae Anna Schutz (Mays Landing, N.J.) and sophomore Julia Reer (Cedar Grove, N.J.), who both scored 9.700 during Springfield's final rotation.
On the uneven bars, junior Ayako Maeda (Yokohama, Japan) individually won the event with a score of 9.550, while senior Annie Kiley (Taneytown, Md.) tied for third with a mark of 9.350 and first-year Emma Skowronek (West Chester, Pa.) posted a 9.075 for fifth.
The Pride took second and third on the vault as Taylor produced a score of 9.600 and sophomore Sage Kaplan (Auburn, Mass.) tallied a score of 9.500. Skowronek paced Springfield's efforts on the beam as she placed second overall with a score of 9.675.
Springfield will return to action next Sunday, February 4 with a dual meet match-up at Ithaca College beginning at 1:00 pm in New York.
