Springfield, Mass. - January 28, 2024 - It was a busy Sunday for the Springfield College wrestling program as student-athletes competed in John Reese Duals in Pennsylvania, while another group of team members headed to Rhode Island for the Wildcat Open.
In the John Reese Duals, Springfield opened up the day with a 28-20 setback to Ithaca before topping Oneonta, 31-16, and cruising past Keystone, 41-6.Â
Against Ithaca, Springfield jumped out to a 20-6 advantage as
Jack Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) each earned major decisions at 125 and 141, while
Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) and
Matthew Duquette (Bristol, Conn.) delivered first-period pins. However, the Bombers responded with winning the final five bouts, including two by pinfall, en route to the victory.
In the win over Oneonta, the Pride got off to another fast start with Callahan notching a pin and Manginelli and Kozdra following with technical falls to put Springfield ahead 16-0.Â
Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) would later add a pin at 165,
Nicholas Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) tacked on a decision at 184, and
Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) sealed the triumph with a second-period pin in his bout at 285.
Springfield had four pins versus Keystone withÂ
Jaden Colwell (Lords Valley, Pa.), Luke Temple (Jackson, N.J.), Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.), and
Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.) all putting their opponents on their backs to highlight the victory.Â
Next Saturday, Springfield will host both Johnson & Wales and Castleton.Â
