Springfield, Mass. – October 6, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team hosted its own invitational on Saturday at the Appleton Tennis Courts alongside Nichols College, the University of Saint Joseph and Colby-Sawyer College.
The Pride played extended duals against both Nichols and the University of Saint Joseph.
Against the Bison,
Micah Matsudaira (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) and
Akito Shimamura (Hirono Futaba, Japan) picked up a 6-0 win over Hugo Cote and Mason Harris. Then in singles action, against Nichols,
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Leon Zeis,
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) defeated Cote, 6-1, 6-2 and
Marten Schalin (Taby, Sweden) topped Harris, 6-0, 6-1.
The Pride had more success against the Blue Jays winning three of four doubles contests. Kimoto and
Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) defeated Karol Romer and Rodrigo Torres, 6-3,
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) topped Marko Karpyuk and Thomas Ameral, 6-0, and Schalin and
Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) bested Ryan Boucher and Jonathan Huot, 7-5.
In singles play against the University of Saint Joseph, Huppke edged Christian Kaverud, 7-5, 6-4, Schalin topped Karpyuk, 6-2, 6-2,
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) bested Ameral, 6-2, 6-4 and Norin defeated Huot, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Springfield will travel to Colby-Sawyer for its final road contest of the fall season on Wednesday, October 9 at 3:30 pm.
