Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to No. 5 MIT in Season Opener

Springfield, Mass. – November 2, 2024 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 5 nationally-ranked MIT by a final score of 242-57 in its season opening meet on Saturday afternoon in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
 
Springfield began the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-medley relay as Carolyn Blenk (Scarsdale, N.Y.)Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.)Korryn Cartwright (Seekonk, Mass.) and Kay Shen (Hong Kong) clocked a time of 4:03.46. 
 
Lamb individually took runner-up honors in both the 100-breast with a time of 1:06.19 and the 200-breast in 2:27:23, while Shen placed just .07 seconds behind Alexandra Turvey of MIT for second place (53.38) in the 100-free and then posted a 5:45.37 in the 500-free. The senior dup capped their day alongside Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) and Natalie Norbut (Bristol, Conn.) for third place in the 200-free relay in 1:40.08.

Maddie Symecko (Southington, Conn.) and Erica Kerner (Cherry Hill, N.J.) had strong starts to their campaigns as Symecko touched the wall third in the 100-back in 1:02.64 and fourth in the 200-back in 2:18.78, while Kerner registered a third place finish in the 200-fly in 2:26.28 just ahead of Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) in fourth in 2:29.33. Savoie also was the fastest finisher for the Pride in the 1000-free in 11:35.40.

In the diving well, Annabel Culbreth-Loomis (Pelham, Mass.) was the top finisher in both disciplines for Springfield as she posted a fourth-place finish on the 1-meter board with 243.30 points and a fourth place finish on the 3-meter board with 227.86 points. Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) was the next highest finisher for Springfield on the boards as she posted a 1-meter score of 236.40 for fifth and a 3-meter score of 205.58 for eighth.

Springfield will travel to Wheaton next weekend for a double dual with the host Lyons and Keene State on Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 am.
