Springfield, Mass. - November 23, 2024 - Paced by a pair of individual title from
Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.), the Springfield College wrestling team took second at the Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday.
Of the 15 teams in the tournament, Springfield finished the day with 125 points as it had seven student-athletes place in the top six of their weight classes.
The top seed at 174 pounds, Deguire ripped through the bracket, pinning his first three opponents in the first period before cruising past Andrew Maiorini of Wesleyan in the finals by a 15-0 technical fall that took place in just 2:19. Leonard was also the top seed in the 184 pound bracket and used a pin, technical fall, and decision to reach the title bout, where he then pinned Jamie Evarts of Williams in 3:40.
Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) took third at 285 as he opened up the tournament with two pins before he was pinned in the semifinals. Katz responded with a 15-2 major decision of Tommy Goodwin from Williams to in the consolation finals.Â

Jaden Colwell (Lords Valley, Pa) took fourth as he went 2-2 on the day at his weight class and
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) added a fifth-place finish as he bounced back from an opening round loss with five-straight victories at 141 pounds.Â
Casey Allen (Park Ridge, N.J.) and
Luke Temple (Jackson, N.J.) added sixth place finishes competing at 197 and 149.
Next up for Springfield will be a trip to Pennsylvania when the Pride compete in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on December 6-7.
