Bristol, R.I. – December 14, 2024 – Several members of the Springfield College wrestling program competed at the Scott Viera Invitational on the campus of Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon in a non-scoring meet.
Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.) led the way for Springfield with a fourth place finish at 184 as he defeated Gregory Brunk of Maine Maritime by decision, 7-0, before fighting through the consolation bracket to the third place bout. Parker downed Brice Retell of Maine Maritime by technical fall, 21-5, Lou Paradiso of Johnson & Wales by decision, 10-5 and Corbin Maraia of Castleton by technical fall, 17-1 before being edged by Ryan Fredette of Maine Maritime by decision, 3-0, in the third-place bout.
Kayo Torres (Sandwich, Mass.) turned in a pair of wins at 157 both by decision as he topped Blake Sastre of Castleton, 8-4, and Cade Delgado of Johnson & Wales, 9-3, while
Matt Duquette (Bristol, Conn.) posted two wins at 165 with a 12-9 decision over Luis Morales before he pinned Michael Malftiano of Roger Williams in 3:37.
Ariel Escalante (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered a trio of pins in the consolation bracket at 125 as he downed Joseph Cahill of Bridgewater State in 1:11, Griffin Norwalt of Castleton in 1:04 and Trevor Yung of Western New England in 2:29.
Nick Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) and
Nate Spuhler (Shoreham, N.Y.) rounded out the highlights for the Pride at 174 and 165, respectively. Rogers eased by David Lisk of Western New England by technical fall, 17-0, and Jake Long of Castleton by major decision, 12-4, while Spuhler defeated Logan Bruce of Castleton by major decision, 10-0, before pinning Dylan Mazaralle of Western New England in 1:07.
Springfield will have a few weeks off before opening the new year at the Williams Open on January 4, 2025.
