Worcester, Mass. – December 6, 2024 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team opened competition today at the 2024 Gompei Invitational held at WPI.
Through one day, Springfield ranks fourth in the team standings with 1262.5 points behind Division I Bryant (3189), WPI (2150.5) and Division II Bentley (1419).
Springfield began the day in the mixed 200-medley relay as Jordon McMillan,
Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) Jonathan Chan and
Kay Shen (Hong Kong) recorded a third place finish with a time of 1:39.64. The quartet was the top-finishing Division III relay in the event just behind the "A" and "B" teams from Division I Bryant University.
Individually, Shen claimed first place in the 50-free with a time of 23.68, while
Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) finished 14th in 24.77. Lamb earned runner-up honors in the 200-breast with a time of 2:20.15, while
Erica Kerner (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won the C final of the event in 2:39.47.
Other individual highlights to wrap up the day featured 17th and 24th place finishes by
Korryn Cartwright (Seekonk, Mass.) and
Gianna Farina (Easton, Pa.) in the 100-fly with times of 1:00.20 and 1:00.96, respectively, while
Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) and Chamberlin took 20th (5:23.30) and 26th (5:24.81) in the 500-free.
Maddie Symecko (Plantsville, Conn.) teamed up with Lamb,
Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) and Shen for a fourth place finish in the 200-medley relay relay a top Division III time of 1:45.56, while Savoie, Shen, Chamberlin and
Natalie Norbut (Bristol, Conn.) took fifth in the 800-free relay with a top Division III time of 7:57.31.
Springfield returns to the pool for day two of the Gompei Invite tomorrow at 9:00 am.
