Women's Swimming and Diving Bests Babson on Senior Day

Springfield, Mass. – February 10, 2024 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving program earned a 139-96 win over Babson College to round out the dual meet portion of its 2023-24 schedule this afternoon inside Art Linkletter Natatorium.

Springfield finished the year with a 9-6 record in dual meets this season.

This afternoon, Springfield picked up wins in ten of 13 contested events and began the day with a victory in the 200-medley relay as senior Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.), junior Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) clocked a time of 1:52.32

The Pride went 1-2 in three different swimming events today as Lamb and Keleher clocked times of 25.27 and 25.41, respectively, in the 50-free, senior Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and junior Kay Shen (Hong Kong) posted times of 2:15.99 and 2:21.33, respectively in the 200-IM and Baumauer and junior Maddie Symecko (Southington, Conn.) registered times of 2:12.49 and 2:16.69, respectively, in the 200-back.

Athanas went on to win the 500-free in 5:30.56 and had the fastest time in the 200-breast in 2:33.12, while sophomore Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) won the 1000-free in 11:07.96, first-year Natalie Norbut (Bristol, Conn.) touched the wall first in the 200-free in 2:03.27 and junior Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) won the 100-free in 54.82. 

Baumauer, Chamberlin, Lamb and Shen posted the fastest time in the 400-free relay today with a mark of 3:39.18 in an exhibition swim.

In the diving well, sophomore Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) won the 1-meter board with 256.36 and was followed by senior Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) in second with 254.02 points. Crawford went on to win the 3-meter board with a score of 230.86, while senior Sarah Friedman (Menlo Park, Calif.) finished second with 220.20 points.

Springfield will return to the pool in two weeks at the 2023-24 NEWMAC Championships, which will begin on Thursday, February 22 on the campus of MIT.
