Men's Gymnastics Registers Best Score Since 2016 In Victory Over William & Mary

Springfield, Mass. - February 11, 2024 - Competing in Blake Arena for the first time this season, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team put up its highest team score since 2016 as it powered past William & Mary, 397.850-385.050.

After a week away from competition, the Pride erupted for a team score that was more than 30 points higher than its last time this year out and earned its best score since posting a 400.600 in the 2016 ECAC Championships.  In fact, the Pride's score of 397.850 is the highest total of any team in the ECAC to date this season. 

Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) had a huge day in the victory as he took first in the all-around competition with a 79.600.

Starting off the day on the floor exercise, the Pride registered the top five scores as it notched a 66.950 as a unit.  Will Wilson (Montgomery, Ala.) took first-place honors with a 13.700, Evan Reichert (Oswego, Ill.) scored a 13.400 for second place, and Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) placed third with a 13.350.

The Pride had similar results on the pommel horse with the five-best scores on the apparatus, as both Peyton Cramer (Grapevine, Texas) and Felix Kriedemann (Strasslach, Germany) hit for 13.700's to tie for first. Kaplan also had a strong showing on the event with a 13.500. Wilson claimed another victory on the rings with a 13.650, followed by David Handron's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) second-place mark of 13.500 and Kaplan's third-place score of 13.450.

Reichert and Ramalho were credited with 14.400's to tie for second on the vault, and Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) tacked on a 14.100 to highlight an event where Springfield recorded a 70.700  Kaplan claimed first place on the parallel bars following a performance where he scored a 13.950, while Carney secured fourth-place honors with a 12.800.  Closing out the afternoon on the horizontal bar, Kriedemann finished second with a 13.300 and Jaden Laubstein (Oakland, Calif.) delivered a 13.000 for fourth place.

Springfield will travel to compete at the University of Michigan next weekend in a meet that will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
