Springfield, Mass. - February 16, 2024 - In their final dual of the season, the Springfield College wrestling team surged past visiting Norwich, 35-16, under a spotlight in Blake Arena on Friday evening.
The Pride, which entered the showdown ranked 25th in the most recent NWCA Division III National Poll, closes out the year with a 14-7 dual meet record.
Myles Leonard (Dumont, N.J.) set the tone in the opening battle of the night for the Pride at 165 pounds as he delivered a pin in just 31 seconds.
Max Gryzmala (Goldens Bridge, N.Y.) was in control in the third period at 174 before he benefitted from a medical forfeit to push the Pride's lead to 12-0. Norwich would respond with a major decision at 184 before notching pins at 197 and 285 to earn a 16-12 edge.
However, Springfield would close out the evening with five-consecutive victories to run away with the 35-16 triumph.
Isiac Paulino (Athol, Mass.) got things started with a 14-1 major decision at 125 before
Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) grinded out a 6-1 decision at 133.
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) wasted no time with a 19-4 technical fall in the first period and
Luke Temple (Jackson, N.J.) followed with a 16-1 technical fall of his own. Wrestling for the final time on Alden Street,
Jared Swartz (Ashland, Mass.) ended the night with an exclamation point as he produced in pin in just 1:23 to seal the victory.
Next Sunday, members of the Pride will compete in the NEWA Futures.
